Here’s an interesting change – the Classic Barolo from Domenico Clerico is now labelled with its village name. The 2017 Barolo del Commune di Monforte d’Alba pours from the bottle with a bright garner colour and a medium rich appearance. Fruit is sourced from the lower parts of Pajana, the youngest vines in Ciabot Mentin and the lower part of Percristina. The wine reveals a classic profile of the Nebbiolo grape, revealing dark cherry, cassis, smoke, tar and liquorice. It shows a lean and almost delicate fibre with polish and silky tannins. 93 points.
